When scar tissue changes the way your implants feel and look, there's an effective path back to comfort.
What Is Capsular Contracture?
Every breast implant, by nature of how the body heals, ends up surrounded by a thin capsule of scar tissue, and in most patients, this capsule stays soft and unnoticeable. Capsular contracture happens when the capsule tightens excessively, instead of squeezing the implant and causing firmness, distortion, or pain. Providers grade the severity of contracture on a scale, from mild firmness that's barely perceptible to significant hardening accompanied by visible distortion and discomfort. That grade largely determines which treatment path makes the most sense.
